Renowned small-batch, ultra-premium tequila producer, Casa Dragones, dove into its first partnership with Art Basel Miami Beach, this week, with gusto and verve to spare!

Special happenings included bar service at ten locations throughout the Miami Beach Convention Center, a series of special guest appearances, and Casa Dragones being poured at a series of external events throughout the week.

The week began with a press talk at the Art Basel Collectors Lounge, where—from 4-5pm on Tuesday, November 30—Casa Dragones co-founder Bertha González Nieves and acclaimed Mexican designer Héctor Esrawe unveiled the Casa Dragones Art Basel Tasting Room, and discussed Esrawe’s design for the space, with insight behind the brand and its history from González Nieves.

The “Art-Tenders” put a creative twist on the concept of guest bartending while continuing Casa Dragones’ longstanding commitment to the arts, and appeared at Casa Dragones’ pop-up Tasting Room in the Collectors Lounge at Art Basel Miami Beach. Each day, a notable artist was the guest mixologist and presented a cocktail they’d chosen. The special guest Casa Dragones Art-Tenders line-up included:

SESSION 1: Rirkrit Tiravanija – A Thai artist whose diverse output defies classification, Tiravanija is known for installations that often involve architectural structures as a stage for sharing meals and other forms of communal exchange.

Tiravanija’s Silver Lips Dragoni was his take on the classic Negroni and featured caviar limes and a silver luster dust rim that resulted in silver lips on those assembled.

SESSION 2:  Gabriel Rico, Eduardo Sarabia, and Cristobal Riestra – A fondness for an assortment of media, allows Rico to create immersive and evocative installations while finding a way to seamlessly blend seemingly disparate elements into a strikingly unified statement; while Sarabia’s work delves into the relationship between his cultural roots and his American identity, through the prisms of humor and absurdity.  Riestra is the proprietor of OMR, one of Mexico City’s most highly regarded contemporary art galleries.

Riestra joined Rico and Sarabia to give the classic Paloma cocktail an elegant update by pouring Casa Dragones Blanco, freshly-squeezed grapefruit juice, and a splash of club soda over ice with a sprig of rosemary.

SESSION 3:  Daniel Knorr and Jorge Méndez Blake – Using a wide variety of genres, contemporary Romanian artist Knorr explores urban space and the relationship between public and private in his interactive projects. Knorr applies a conceptual approach in his investigation of historical and socio-political phenomena, which he appropriates, transfers, and thematizes in the context of art. Blake—a Guadalajara-based Mexican mixed-media conceptual artist based—trained as an architect and now builds walls that he connects to literature through their history.

Méndez Blake and Knorr teamed up to craft a pair of zesty cocktails, La Traicionera (Casa Dragones Blanco, jalapeño, and edible flowers) and the Pinche Panther (Casa Dragones Blanco, pineapple juice, ginger liqueur, jalapeno, and ginger ale).

SESSION 4: Bárbara Sanchez-Kane – Among Mexico’s most-celebrated avant-garde fashion designers, Sanchez-Kane reworks and fuses menswear designs with Latin culture, political statements, and experimental techniques, making genderless clothing that can be art. Sánchez-Kane resists traditional notions of Mexican identity and its relationship with the feminine and masculine. Through fashion design, painting, performance, and installation, the work goes through anxiety and fear, to question pleasure and domination.

Sanchez-Kane helmed the fourth edition of the Art-Tender Sessions, and presented the Sentimental, with Casa Dragones Blanco, Blanc vermouth, freshly-squeezed lemon juice, and orange bitters, served with a lemon twist.

What’s more, not only was Casa Dragones poured throughout Art Basel Miami Beach at the Miami Beach Convention Center—during the fair’s First Choice VIP Hours, as well as all public hours—but Casa Dragones was also poured at nineteen public and private events throughout Art Basel Miami Beach week, including at official ABMB Young Collectors and ABMB Finale events. ¡Salud!
