Hot on the heels of their win, at last month’s 57th annual Grammy Awards, where their album of classic jazz standards, Cheek To Cheek took home the award for “Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album” (not to mention her bravura turn at last weekend’s Academy Awards) – Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga have announced a pair of concerts, at Planet Hollywood, this spring.

They kicked-off the Cheek To Cheek tour with a pair of sold-out shows, at the Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, on New Year’s Eve Eve and New Year’s Eve (aka December 30th and 31st); and now they’re returning for a pair of soon-to-be-sold out shows at The AXIS at Planet Hollywood Resort, on Friday, April 10th and Saturday, April 11th (with tickets going on sale, this Saturday, March 7th, at 10am; and priced from $69 up to $250).

Cheek To Cheek makes Lady Gaga’s third consecutive #1 album release in as many years – making her one of only two female artists to have a trio of #1 albums, this decade.  As for Bennett, Cheek To Cheek has allowed him to hold-on to his claim to the title of “Oldest Artist in Industry History to have a #1 Album on the Billboard Charts” (which is pretty damned cool).

The concert will feature a combination of duets and solo performances that beautifully showcase the unquestionable chemistry between Bennett and Gaga (whose ages span some six decades).

Recorded in New York City, and released last September, Cheek To Cheek took over a year to complete and features tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano, trumpeter George Rabbai, and the late flutist Paul Horn.  Furthermore, jazz musicians associated with both artists including members of Bennett’s quartet: Mike Renzi, Gray SargentHarold Jones, and Marshall Wood; as well pianist Tom Ranier. Jazz trumpeter Brian Newman, a long-time friend and colleague of Lady Gaga appears on the album, as well with his NYC-based jazz quintet..

As Bennett says, “What I really love about being a jazz singer is that jazz artists are very creative, very honest, from phrase to phrase” and Lady Gaga adds, “We wanted to make something that sounded perfect because of the quality of the emotion…the honesty.”

Cheek To Cheek also features the Lady Gaga solo “Lush Life,” accompanied by Tony Bennett’s solo of “Sophisticated Lady.” The two songs complement each other, as Lady Gaga explains, “I loved making ‘Lush Life,’ Tony mentored me emotionally through the process,” and Tony Bennett adds, “I sang ‘Sophisticated Lady’ to answer her on ‘Lush Life,’ and because Duke Ellington wrote it, who collaborated with Billy Strayhorn, the writer of ‘Lush Life.’”
