More than $2.5 million worth of goods were donated by Wynn Resorts, this week, to medical facilities and nonprofits across the Greater Las Vegas and Greater Boston areas.  A very strong move, in keeping with the luxury gaming leader’s efforts—spearheaded by the company’s CEO, Matt Maddox—during this crisis, that have included being the first resort on the Las Vegas Strip to shut its doors (well ahead of any state or federal mandates), and engaging the director of Georgetown University’s Center for Global Health Science and Security, Dr. Rebecca Katz, as a consultant.

In addition to donating 240,000 N95-equivalent CDC-approved respirator masks, 600,000 surgical masks, 500,000 pairs of medical gloves, and thousands of medical gowns to Las Vegas area hospitals; Wynn Resorts has also given thousands of protective gloves and surgical masks to local nursing homes and law enforcement facilities that, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, are battling severe supply shortages. Further, the company has pledged to continue working with community leaders and the newly appointed task force to assist the Las Vegas and Boston communities, during these challenging times

Additionally, 175 pallets of food valued at $750,000 were donated by Wynn Resorts to local area food banks and organizations; including (from Wynn Las Vegas) Equality Nevada, HELP of Southern Nevada, HopeLink of Southern Nevada, Jewish Family Service Agency, The Just One Project, Las Vegas Rescue Mission, Lutheran Social Services of Nevada, Project 150, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Nevada, The Salvation Army of Southern Nevada, The Shade Tree of Las Vegas, SHARE Village Las Vegas, Three Square Food Bank, United Labor Agency of Nevada (ULAN), and the United States Veterans Initiative (U.S. Vets); as well as (from Encore Boston Harbor) Bread of Life, The Everett Grace Food Pantry & Outreach, and The Greater Boston Food Bank.

But wait…  There’s more!  The Wynn Employee Foundation—a charitable giving foundation that is funded and managed by employees of Wynn Resorts—has made a cash donation to Three Square (Las Vegas, NV), in the amount of $100,000, and another to Bread of Life (Malden, MA), in the amount of $25,000.*

And the hits just keep on coming, because Wynn Resorts went and launched its new Virtual Volunteerism program, this week, that will provide volunteer opportunities to Wynn employees, during these temporary resort closures. Virtual Volunteerism connects sheltered-in-place employees with 15 online virtual volunteer platforms, including Catchafire, Translators without Borders, 7 Cups, the Message of Hope Foundation, and Be My Eyes.  After selecting a preferred cause area (such as crisis relief, health and education, or professional business services), employees can choose from hundreds of opportunities, across a wide array of sectors, allowing them to provide pro-bono and skills-based services.

These ongoing donation and volunteerism strategies follow an extensive Maddox-implemented financial protection plan ensuring full wages (including averaged tips) to all 16,000 Wynn Resorts employees in North America.  Simultaneously, the company’s Directors and top executives are each foregoing between 33% and 100% of their respective salaries for the remainder of 2020, in exchange for shares of Wynn stock; in an effort to offset ongoing employee payroll and other expenses.

Said Maddox, “Our support will only continue to rise as we identify new ways to fill financial and supply-chain gaps, in our home communities.  We are working together with the medical community and charitable partners to ensure we are providing meaningful help where it matters the most.”
