Following the annual One Night for ONE DROP gala, a number of people asked me what it is that One Drop does.  They knew it had something to do with water, but the whys-and-wherefores eluded them.  So, to commemorate World Water Day (as well as One Drop's tenth anniversary), I figured I’d do some ‘splaining; and give a brief rundown of the various projects One Drop is involved in, around the world.

As alluded to, in Part 1, below are the numerous projects in which One Drop is involved, worldwide (broken-down into three geographical regions: Central America and the Caribbean, West Africa, and India); with statistics and information about each.* 

Central America and the Caribbean

CountryEl Salvador
Beneficiaries:  24,000 people who have been educated about water issues via artistic activities
Benefits:  Increased annual harvest yield for beneficiaries (up to four hundred percent)
Years:  2010 – 2016
Status:  Completed

CountryGuatemala
Beneficiaries:  37,000 people will gain direct access to safe drinking water
Benefits:  Access to sanitation facilities for 20,000 people
Years:  2014 – 2019
Status:  Ongoing

CountryHaiti
Beneficiaries:  33,000 people have gained improved access to water
Benefits:  Six solar-powered community water centers affecting more than 8,000 people
Years:  2010 – 2013
Status:  Completed

CountryHonduras
Beneficiaries:  1,350 families (8,100 people) have gained access to an improved water source
Benefits:  400 families (2,400 people) have gained access to a latrine with improved sanitation
Years:  2008 – 2015
Status:  Completed

CountryNicaragua
Beneficiaries:  23,000 people have been educated about water issues
Benefits:  Cultivation of 1,200 family gardens (and 30 school gardens)
Years:  2005 – 2010
Status:  Completed

West Africa

CountryBurkina Faso
Beneficiaries:  47,290 people have gained access to an improved water source
Benefits:  Formation of 147 Water Point Committees providing a formal management structure
Years:  2011 – 2018
Status:  Ongoing

India

CountryIndia – State of Odisha
Beneficiaries
:  55,000 people have gained access to safe drinking water
Benefits:  Water purification units have been installed in 100 villages
Years:  2011 – 2015
Status:  Completed

CountryIndia – Sheohar district (State of Bihar)
Beneficiaries:  250,000 people have gained access to safe drinking water through water-point construction and rehabilitation
Benefits:  3,000 farmers have been granted access to affordable irrigation technologies and training services
Years:  2014 – 2018
Status:  Ongoing
