This year, the eighth edition of the annual Cirque du Soleil-imagined One Night for One Drop™ gala—presented by MGM Resorts International and benefiting the One Drop Foundation—was canceled as the COVID-19 pandemic swept the globe.  The annual affair, presented around World Water Day each year since 2013 has historically been highlighted by an original production featuring performers from each of Cirque du Soleil’s Las Vegas-based residency shows, who volunteered their time to rehearse and perform in a program that would be presented that night, and then, never again.

This year, as many of you are aware, was going to preview an upcoming residency of The Illusionists, at Luxor Las Vegas.  But, alas, it was not to be, and fell into the category of woulda, shoulda, Prada.  But, recognizing the need many of us have for visually stimulating content during isolation, the powers that be at One Drop and Cirque du Soleil have gone ahead and teamed up to give us a special 60-minute online presentation, premiering live at noon (Pacific), on Friday, May 01, at Cirque du Soleil’s content hub, CirqueConnect.

Featuring a selection of the spectacular acts presented in the third and fifth editions of One Night for One Drop™ (held in 2015 and 2017, respectively), along with some surprise appearances.  The hope is that this special will have a two-fold effect: Both to generate wonderful memories, and to further raise awareness for One Drop’s vital mission—to ensure sustainable access to safe water and sanitation through innovative partnerships, creativity, and the power of art; sustainably fostering the adoption of healthy water, sanitation, community empowerment, and hygiene-related behaviors—which, in the face of the current global health crisis is more urgent than ever.
