By now, pretty much everyone with a Wi-Fi connection knows that Adele has made a last-minute decision to postpone her Weekends with Adele residency, which was planned for Fridays and Saturdays beginning January 21 and running through April 16, in The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

The much-beloved artist released a video on her Instagram account where she emotionally lays out her reasons for postponing (thus far, indefinitely) her residency, and what she plans to do, going forward (get the show ready and reschedule the dates).

The following is a transcript of Adele’s Instagram video:

Hi, um.  Listen.  I'm so sorry, but my show ain't ready.

We've tried absolutely everything that we can to put it together in time and for it to be good enough for you, but we've been absolutely destroyed by delivery delays and COVID. Half my crew and half my team are down with Covid.  They still are, and it's been impossible to finish the show.

And, I can’t give you what I have, right now, and I'm gutted — I'm sorry it's so last minute. We've been awake for over 30 hours now, trying to figure out what happened, and we've run out of time.  I'm so upset and I'm really embarrassed and so sorry to everyone that traveled, again.  I’m really, really sorry.  I’m really sorry.

We’re on it.  We’re gonna reschedule all the dates.  We’re on it, right now.  And I’m gonna finish my show, and I’m gonna get it to where it’s supposed to be.  I’m so sorry, it’s been impossible.  We’ve been up against so much and it just ain’t ready.  I’m really sorry.

And while many have been up in arms about how an artist must always “go on with the show,” and how a professional simply doesn’t just cancel at the last minute; I must object; not out of deference to Adele, per se—though, it should be noted that I’m a fan who has previously seen her live (she was amazing)—but because that’s simply not accurate.

As a matter of fact, back in August of 2015, no less of an artist than Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, herself, was touring and was scheduled to perform in the same venue (i.e. The Colosseum at Caesars Palace).  And Miss Franklin, who, by all accounts, was as professional as they come, canceled at the last minute, citing exhaustion; even though she had four days to get from Oakland to Las Vegas in her private motorcoach.

And while it’s neither here nor there (except insomuch as it's one of those interesting coincidences I do so enjoy) I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that one of my favorite covers of all time is Aretha Franklin’s cover of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” (so, enjoy the video, below).

Anyhow, as you might well imagine, folks were pissed and wanted someone to blame.

But where does someone who has spent money on airfare, hotel accommodations, transfers, go to seek reimbursement?

It’s certainly not Caesars Palace’s responsibility, beyond the accommodations.  Nor is it incumbent on AEG Presents (Aretha) or Live Nation (Adele) to fall on their respective financial swords, in circumstances like these, beyond refunding the tickets.  And good luck trying to explain to your airline why they should refund your airfare for a cancelled concert.

Will Adele reschedule?  I sure hope so.  She said as much in her video.

Will it be worth it?  Indubitably.
