There are few things I enjoy trumpeting more than the ways in which so many Las Vegas-based companies support the community—whether that’s the Las Vegas community, the American community, or the global community.  In the case of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation (and continuing with my trumpet metaphor) the company’s levels of philanthropy require an entire horn section to relay.  Here’s a look at the company’s outreach over the past few weeks, in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

March 17:  Las Vegas Sands announces a $250,000 donation to Las Vegas organizations feeding those most at-risk, including Three Square Food Bank (Southern Nevada’s largest hunger-relief organization), Communities In Schools of Nevada (a dropout-prevention organization, helping to provide meals to students who would otherwise be participating in their respective schools’ free- and subsidized-meal programs), and SHARE Village Las Vegas (a veterans assistance organization that also organizes a community food pantry).  These unrestricted donations allow each organization to direct the funds where they are most urgently needed.

March 23The Venetian Resort of Las Vegas donates 60 pallets of food to Three Square, including fresh produce, proteins, and other food items.  The massive food donation required two semi-trucks to transport to Three Square, which will then distribute the food, through partner agencies, at 43 emergency distribution sites around Southern Nevada.

March 26:  Las Vegas Sands donates more than 55,000 bottles of water and 150 cases of dry food to organizations including Family Promise of Las Vegas, HELP of Southern Nevada, HopeLink of Southern Nevada, Lutheran Social Services, Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth (NPHY), St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, SafeNest, The Salvation Army of Southern Nevada, The Shade Tree, SHARE Village Las Vegas, The United States Veterans Initiative (U.S. Vets), and WestCare Nevada.

March 27:  Las Vegas Sands, The Venetian Resort of Las Vegas, and the Adelson family donate 1,900 test kits to the State of Nevada for use in its efforts to screen citizens for COVID-19.

March 31:  Having already donated 100,000 masks to the Las Vegas health-care community and 5,000 masks to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Las Vegas Sands announces it will also be donating two million surgical masks and 20,000 protective suits to health-care professionals, first responders, and nonprofit organizations in Nevada and New York.  One million masks will be distributed in each state, while the 20,000 protective suits will be donated to Nevada’s hospitals and first responders.

April 06:  Las Vegas Sands donates 20 cases of toilet paper (1,200 rolls) to U.S. Vets, 50 cases of toilet paper (3,000 rolls) to Nevada Homeless Alliance, and 34 cases of paper towels (1,824 rolls) to Clark County for use at a new isolation-and-quarantine center, currently under construction.

And let’s not lose sight of the fact that the company continues to pay and provide full health-care benefits to each of its nearly 10,000 Las Vegas Team Members.

"Hopefully our donations will help protect people on the front lines so they can continue their invaluable work, and we can start to see the numbers of people affected begin to diminish," explains Las Vegas Sands’ Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Sheldon Adelson. "Our properties in Las Vegas may be empty right now, but our hearts are full of hope for the future. The determination and courage I have seen in our Team Members, which I know is the same throughout this country, gives me every confidence we will get through this unprecedented crisis."

As my late grandmother used to say, from your lips to God’s ear, Sir!
