 Warren 77 |
Warren 77 is the first sports-bar where I’ve genuinely enjoyed myself. This could have something to do with the fact that I was neither forced to watch sports; nor obliged to sip a frosty cold one.
The bar at Warren 77 |
A joint venture between Matt Abramcyck and former art-dealer Chris Miller – known for their restaurant Smith & Mills, as well as that Icarus of the recent NY nightlife scene, Beatrice Inn; and the NY Rangers’ stylish left-winger, Sean Avery; the neighborhood watering hole caters to such a diverse crowd that our glorious gaggle of guys and gals in cocktail finery didn’t stand-out as we sat in between beautiful TriBeCans there for the ice-cold margis, and preppy Wall Streeters sipping their G&Ts.
Dini's Mac and Cheese at Warren 77 |
Chef Sean Giordano’s food is great. Not to be missed are Dini’s Mac and Cheese (with fontina and cavatappi cheeses, and covered in caramelized onions), the Fresh-baked Chocolate Chip Cookies, and the Warren Street Wings, served with a creamy Bleu Cheese dipping-sauce.
 Video-Game cocktail tables at Warren 77 |
Instead of whiling away the hours at the lovely black oak bar or kicking-it with your pals in one of the supple elongated booths, you can opt to take a trip down Repressed-Memory Lane with a game of Galaga, Ms. Pac Man, or Donkey Kong at one of the vintage video-game cocktail tables. The décor is almost ironic with its black-and-white portrait of John McEnroe having a tantrum, Diane Arbus photo, and colorful print of Wayne Gretsky alongside vintage Hardy Boys mystery novels and a hammered metal ceiling.
 Sean Avery |
Avery is a terrific host (not to mention altogether charming and quite dreamy, to boot), and does his best to make everyone feel at home. It is obvious that this project is more to him than just a place to sink his money, and I say “Bravo!”
Trust – if I’m raving about a sports-bar, you know it’s gotta be something special.
