Selene Luna packs a whole lotta sass into her 3’10” frame.

Whether you know her from the burlesque circuit, the world of stand-up comedy, or simply from her role as Margaret Cho’s saucy assistant on VH1’s The Cho Show; Selene Luna gets stuck in your craw – and that’s just how she likes it.

Now, as she prepares to bring the Vegas or Bust-version of her acclaimed burlesque comedy review, Selene Luna’s Dog & Pony Show, to Las Vegas (this Friday and Saturday, at Downtown's Inspire Theatre - with featured guests Prince Poppycock, Audrey Deluxe, Lindsey Alley, and the hilarious Jackie Beat); the one and only Selene Luna gives me the skinny and answers these five questions.

ShulmanSays: What IS the Dog & Pony Show all about?

Selene Luna: The Dog & Pony Show is a fearless anything goes variety show featuring the greatest talent in the biz; think Ed Sullivan Show meets Phyllis Diller, and I am your host!  The Dog & Pony Show is no amateur talent show: The guest performers are all veterans at the top of their games.  The audience can expect first-rate vocal talent, drag, comedy, magic, puppetry and burlesque.

SS: Will you be performing your fabulous burlesque or doing your riotous stand-up?  Or simply acting as ringmaster?

SL: I will be acting as ringmaster and will pepper in some stand-up comedy throughout the night. I really enjoy hosting and the unpredictable thrill of interacting with a live audience. The stage is my heroin.  If Inspire invites me to return, I will definitely be performing my own brand of burlesque at that time.

SS: You always look fierce and done – where do you shop (because that ain’t no GapKids you’re featuring…)?

SL: Lovely compliment (*blushing*), thank you!  It’s been a lifetime of resourceful ingenuity, home stitching, bank-breaking alterations, thrift shopping, loads of eBay, staples and hot-glue-gunning (dead serious).  At a very young age, I figured out how to eyeball a garment and ‘make it work’ on a low-budget.  It ain’t easy, but I refuse to look like crap simply because I’m not an off-the-rack girl.  I see my size as a style-blessing; at least I know no one else is rockin’ my look.

SS: From where do you take the inspiration for your comedy?

SL: I take comedy inspiration from just about every aspect of life and I spin it with my own perspective as a little person, which is unique, but I strive to make it universally relatable. I enjoy using comedy as a platform to clarify any misconceptions people may have about little people, but I want the audience to have fun and laugh along with me.

SS: What is it about the Las Vegas audience that most excites you?

What excites me most about the Vegas audience is that I can count on them to be drunk and looking for a good time. When the Vegas audience walks in the door, they are already in a great mood and excited about the evenings possibilities, something you don’t get in a lot of cities.
