deadmau5 at XS-The Nightclub

Last week, the glamorous XS - The Nightclub at Encore at Wynn Las Vegas celebrated its 2nd Anniversary.  To ring in the merriment, the glitzy nightspot imported Canadian electro-house maestro deadmau5 (it’s pronounced “dead mouse” – I guess his management figured that seeing the name Joel Thomas Zimmerman on club flyers wouldn't pack-in the throbbing masses).

The crowd ate-up every minute of it, but I was left wondering when it was that I’d morphed into my father, yelling things like “Isn’t it awfully loud in here?” and “Doesn’t anyone say ‘Excuse me’ anymore?”  Add to this that I was walking with a cane (due to my recent knee surgery) and wearing a velvet smoking jacket with a circa 1970s brooch by Ilias Lalaounis on my lapel, I’ll admit to standing-out a bit from the revelers surrounding me, wearing their bendy glow-stick mouse-ears.

In an intriguing bit of cross promotion, Dom Pérignon chose that night and venue to launch its new “Luminous” bottles – with phosphorescent glow-in-the-dark labels.  These things are gonna sell like gang-busters (especially in the nightclubs and “gentlemen’s cabarets”)!  A buxom blonde in a push-up corseted bustier pouring from a bottle of ultra-premium Champagne with a glowing label just says “Vegas” – doesn’t it?

So “Bravo!” to XS for two wonderfully successful years; and hooray to DP for yet another clever twist on a classic.  Cheers!
