I was only able to stay at the opening of the Ruvo Center for an hour or so, because from there I had to race to the opposite corner of town for the IMAGINE Concert being given by Opportunity Village at their Ralph & Betty Engelstad Campus. A fun and colorful affair, the highlight was the concert chock-full of local peeps, including Christy Molasky, Jodi Fonfa, Renee Hale, Janie and Jeff Gale, Cari Marshall, Paul Lowden, Barbara Molasky, Marsha Miller Schaul, Michael Saltman, and more. The wind was rather gusty, and while I half expected someone to get up and sing “Stormy Weather” á la the late, great Lena Horne, I want to give a special shout-out to Whitney duBoef for her bravura rendition of “Rock-a-Bye Your Baby, with a Dixie Melody” (far more Judy than Jolsen).
My favorite part of the night came when talking to Patrick Duffy, who, in the middle of our conversation, gestured toward the woman singing on-stage and proudly proclaimed “That’s my manicurist,” just as Susie Molasky happened to pass by. I looked at him incredulously and said “Susie does your nails? You expect me to believe that she just whips-out the belt-sander in the parlor of her Park Tower aerie and whittles-down your hooves?” Well, as you might imagine, we both stood there, clutching each other and laughing hysterically. Really, is there anything better than a good laugh with a good friend?
Again, I’m gonna let the photos tell the story for me. Enjoy!
