What I’m Watching This Season (Part 1)

(01/23/2010)

So, here are some shows that I've been getting into of late.  Some are returning after a hiatus and some are new.  Give 'em a look-see!

Blue Mountain State (Spike)
This
new comedy about college football is so overtly hyper-hetero that it’s (accidentally?) swung-around to high-def homo.

Burn Notice (USA)

If you’re going into covert ops, this show is like a how-to guide with awesome art direction.  Also, Gabrielle Anwar wearing a mini-dress and armed with a pump-action shotgun just kicks ass!

Castle (ABC)

The premise is as likely as was Murder She Wrote’s but the cast’s chemistry and the witty writing make it an hour of televised fun.  Also, veteran actress Susan Sullivan deftly steals all of her scenes.

Damages (FX)

Glenn Close leads a fantastic cast in this dark legal drama.  It’s noir, it’s bleak, it’s creepy, and it’s incredible.

Greek (ABC Family)

It’s sweet, it’s young, it’s college (but what else would you expect from ABC Family?).

Law & Order (NBC)

20 years and still a major contender.  Also, nobody messes with S. Epatha!

Life Unexpected (The CW)

It's been touted as a cross between Juno and Gilmore Girls (which might be a bit optimistic).  But the premiere has me intruiged and I want to see more.

Psych (USA)

I love a show with a cast that’s obviously having so much fun.  Spot the pineapple – win a prize!

Spartacus: Blood and Sand (STARZ)

Starz blends soft-core porn with NC17 violence that’s enticing and beautifully shot.  And yes, that’s Xena (whose hubby is one of the producers…).

White Collar (USA)

This clever drama about a con-man consulting for the FBI (like a modern-day Frank Abagnale, Jr.) is fun, escapist, and features a pretty cast.
