I’m not sure why nobody in Las Vegas keeps a social calendar (other than the Calendar Page on this very site).  This oversight is especially noticeable in the late spring, before Memorial Day, when every organization seems to realize that they need to schedule their spring event/luncheon/gathering/what-have-you; and those of us who attend such things, find a situation like the jam-packed evening that this Thursday, May 8th, has become.

In my family, the most important of these is my Dad’s 68th birthday.  But, my Dad (being the go-with-the-flow fellow he is) has given me a flyer for the night, so we’re celebrating with brunch on Sunday.

This still leaves me with a crazy amount of functions on Thursday.  For starters, Jodi & Andy Fonfa are having a cocktail party, at their home, in The Ridges, celebrating Andy’s appointment to the Board of Directors of First Foundation Bank.  Andy’s a great guy, and Jodi was my go-to for getting the incredible Debbie Allen to accept the honorarium of “Woman of the Year” at next year’s Cartier-sponsored Black & White Ball benefiting Nevada Ballet Theatre.  As I do with evenings such as this, I use MapQuest to help me best plot-out my evening, and so (especially from my home-base in Spanish Trail), it is fitting that I start, up in the Ridges.

From there, I’ll drive down to the UNLV Campus, where the UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum will be feting the opening of the exhibit Jerry Lewis: Painted Pictures.  Not only do I adore Jerry Lewis (of all the celebrities whom I’ve interviewed, he was among the most gracious, entertaining, and giving of subjects), but I enjoy his work.  And let’s face it – Las Vegas needs to treasure its icons, and Jerry Lewis is one of the few remaining greats whom we’ve got.

But the night’s just getting started for me, because from UNLV, I’ve gotta zip down to Anthem, where the philanthropic juggernauts that are Diana Bennett and Scott Menke are hosting what has become a must-attend event over the past few years – the Fashion for Three Square event benefiting the Bag Childhood Hunger campaign of Three Square Food Bank.  Held in conjunction with Neiman Marcus, this year’s highlight will be a fully choreographed fashion presentation by the luxury specialty retailer’s Fashion Director/Senior Vice President, Ken Downing.

And yes – I’ll make sure to take lots of pretty pictures of pretty people doing pretty things at all of the affairs I’ve mentioned, above.  You’ll just have to come-back and read all about it.
