It’s that time of year, folks – New Year’s Eve. By now, to riff on Jody Watley’s newest single, “Nightlife” (currently in the Top 5 on the UK charts!), you’ve got your hair done, your nails done, and are about to get your drag on. All that remains is to figure-out where you and your peeps are gonna hunker-down for the night, when the confetti drops and the horns are blown.

Well, if you’re planning to be in Las Vegas, I’ve got some great last minute tips for you, that I’ve broken down, geographically.

Off-Strip / Eastside: “Bling” in the New Year with Pia Zadora at Piero’s

Sup on the old-school Italian cuisine of the city’s favorite OG dinner spot, Piero’s. Drink like you’ve got the liver of a teenager, and dance to the dulcet tones of Golden Globe winner, Pia Zadora; as she, accompanied by her music director Vincent Falcone and her band, perform those classics and standards from the American Songbook that the greatest entertainers of the past century have made synonymous with Las Vegas.

Off-Strip / Westside: Toast the Far East with Chef Sosa’s New Year’s Feast at Poppy Den

When Chef Angelo Sosa, the popular runner-up, on Season 7 of Bravo’s hit completion series, Top Chef, reintroduced Poppy Den Asian Bistro at Tivoli Village, this year; it became all the rage for the residents of Summerlin. So, it stands to reason that it’s gonna be packed to the rafters, this New Year’s Eve. Chef Sosa is offering a four-course prix-fixe menu, and two seatings (7pm and 9pm). But the fun is just getting started, because after dinner, in association with Las Vegas’ fabufabu nightlife promoter, Eduardo Cordova, Chef Sosa will be counting down the New Year, upstairs, in The Den – the restaurant’s recently opened second floor lounge. There’s gonna be a DJ, dancing, party favors, and (I really dig this) complimentary Town Car service home, at the night’s end.

Off-Strip / Downtown: Kristin Chenoweth at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts

The opening of The Smith Center in Downtown’s Symphony Park, ushered in a new era of cultural happenings with a proper dose of street-cred, for our fair city. Now, putting its money (or rather that of its donors) where it’s proverbial mouth would be, the venue has hired that dainty dynamo of stage and screen, Kristin Chenoweth, to entertain, on the last night of 2013. Singing the hits from the roles she performed, in blockbusters like Broadway’s Wicked, and TV’s Glee, you don’t need to be a drama nerd to know that this is gonna be a wonderful night of song and merriment. Plus, the curtain’s dropping at 10pm, so you can double-dip on venues, that night!
