According to Cirque du Soleil founder, Guy Laliberté, the global need for clean water is “one of our planet’s most pressing, yet most addressable problems,” but only when people band-together, and devote “the amount of attention and resources” necessitated by the circumstances.

So, Laliberté has put his money where his mouth is, and is hoping you’ll follow his example.  In a one-night-only performance, at Bellagio, on March 22 (not coincidentally, World Water Day 2013), Cirque du Soleil is presenting 200 of its artists (culled from all seven of its Las Vegas shows, alongside a number of world-renowned guest performers), for the inaugural ONE NIGHT for ONE DROP – a philanthropic event to raise global awareness and much-needed funding for ONE DROP’s worldwide access to water, as well as furthering education initiatives.

When he created ONE DROP, Laliberté endowed the non-profit to ensure the accessibility of water to everyone, now and forever, through the implementation of unique and integrated worldwide water projects, as well as reversing the ever-increasing water crisis through increased mindfulness for water-related issues.

ONE NIGHT for ONE DROP’s Honorary Chair is His Serene Highness, Albert II, The Sovereign Prince of Monaco; and the event’s quartet of co-Chairs includes such powerhouses as three-time Academy Award-winning Hollywood heavyweight and underwater explorer, James Cameron (Terminator, Aliens, Titanic, Avatar); Cirque du Soleil President/CEO, Daniel Lamarre; MGM Resorts International Chairman/CEO, James Murren; and Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman, Tom Staggs.

In addition to a stellar Event Committee that’s comprised of roughly 30 Las Vegas power-players (folks with names like Bennett, Brown, Doherty, Esfandiari, Goldstein, Greenspun, Hart, Hilton, Hornbuckle, Houssels, Jones, Kirvin, Mather, Morton, Mulroy, Nadal, Ruffin, Ruvo, Saltman, Sanders, Schorr, Schwartz, Serrano, Snyder, and – Doh! – Shulman); there’s a Las Vegas Host Committee co-Chaired by the Hon. Caroline Goodman, and former Mayor Oscar Goodman (now the Chair of the LVCVA’s own Host Committee), with its own team of Vegas VIPs that’s sure to make any visiting luminary feel right at home.

There’s gonna be an exclusive celebrity pre-show reception, at HYDE Bellagio; while after the one-time performance, in Bellagio’s O Theatre – where water will be depicted as the essence of life on Earth, while Earth itself is portrayed as an artistic creation – and in keeping with Laliberte’s tradition of fantastic soirées (let’s face it, the guy has proven that he knows how to throw a shindig), revelers will get-down at the incredible post-show extravaganza, at the Bellagio Pools & Courtyard.

Laliberté points out that “One person dies every 20 seconds because they don’t have access to clean water,” and since water-conservation is not simply an issue “over there” but touches us, right here, in the Las Vegas Valley; ONE DROP has entered into an innovative  $1,000,000/5-year partnership with Las Vegas Springs Preserve.  This initiative will fund youth conversations and education programs, as well as Springs Preserve’s ongoing efforts supporting water-conservation and sustainable living, in the Las Vegas Valley.
