This Sunday, UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center will host The Animal Foundation’s 14th annual Best in Show event, and it’s gonna be a doozy!  A dog show, featuring more than 50 incredible shelter dogs, strutting their stuff, for the title of “Best in Show”; all while auditioning for forever homes.  And while only one of these dogs will walk away with the title, all of them will be available for adoption, at the show’s conclusion – so everyone comes away a winner.

Dale Wynn – who is both an emeritus director of The Animal Foundation, and also chairs this heart-warming annual event – took a few minutes to talk about this event, and I asked her what she would hope the public takes away from this event.  (I came away from our conversation, with tears in my eyes; but they were hopeful tears.)  Here’s what she had to say…

“If there is one message I want people to take away with them, about this event and organization, it would be ‘please come adopt.’  Our shelter is full of the most wonderful animals of all shapes and sizes, looking for their forever homes.  And if you’re not in a position to adopt, there are so many other ways to help – whether by fostering, volunteering, or donating.  It all matters.  It all makes a difference.”

“The monies raised at Best in Show help fund the shelter’s life-saving programs,” Wynn continued, before adding that “the shelter is focused on its Mission Possible 2020 program, where – by the year 2020 – every healthy and treatable animal that comes to The Animal Foundation will be saved.  This is a community problem that will only be resolved with the community’s help.”

Founded in 1978 as a small, low-cost spay-and-neuter center, The Animal Foundation operates an 8-acre campus in Las Vegas that houses adoptable pets; all lost and found animals; low-cost clinics for spaying and neutering, and for vaccines; and the organization’s administrative offices.

Envisioning a humane and compassionate community for all animals is a way of life for the friends of The Animal Foundation; while the family-friendly Best in Show event has grown into Las Vegas’ favorite dog show benefiting the Valley’s lost, unwanted, and abandoned animals.

The 53 dogs in this year’s show, fall into six categories – Large, Medium, Small, Variety, Puppies, and Special Needs.  And thanks to the friendly team at Pet’ographique, they’ve been given the canine glam-squad treatment, followed by a photo-shoot.  So, take a look through the slideshow, above, and check out some of this year’s sweet-faced participants.

Then, directly following the show, at roughly 2pm, head to the show-floor, where the adoptions will take place.

Just remember Dale’s motto, “Shelter animals are the best!”  And she should know: She’s adopted two dogs and a veritable clowder of cats!
