In the mid-nineties Austrian House music maestro Peter Rauhofer (working under the name Size Queen) collaborated with Paul Alexander – one of the great emcees and stylistas of New York’s downtown demimonde.  The result was the “Paul’s Groove” mix of “Walk!” by Size Queen feat. Paul Alexander, perhaps one of the most enduring runway classics of all time.

Between Alexander’s “calling” for different categories (à la the drag balls of Harlem) and his fierce name-checking lyrics, as well as Rauhofer’s infectious beats, “Walk” continues to be relevant, even some sixteen years after its release.

And while Alexander has gone-on to become one third of the group, The Ones (alongside his longtime friends Jojo Americo and Nashom), he tells me that “Walk” continues to be one of his favorite (and most requested) songs to perform, live.

Get into it!

Take to the catwalk, Darling, and show us Gorgeous.
Walk the body.  Walk the face.
Walk it, and you’ll snatch first place.
Walk for me.

Walk for realness.  Win grand prize.
It’s time you children realize
You walk for me.  Walk for me.  Walk for me.

You’re walking on pebbles, in Manolo Blahniks.
Walk for me.  Walk for me.
You’ve got dozens of men crawling at your feet.
Walk for me.  Walk for me.

Alarms, alarms are going off.
Walk for me.  Walk for me.
Walk like you’re running from the police.
Walk for me.  Walk for me.

(Interlude)

Walk like Carol Miles.  Walk like Mounia.
Walk like Anna Bayle and Roshumba taught it to ya.
Walk for me.  Walk for me.

Bring it to the stage, my dear.  Walk it, right over here.
Give it some attitude, Sweetie.  You know you’re here to please me.
Walk for me.  Walk for me.

Bring it to the runway, Honey; bring me elegance and charm.
Walk as if your man is a pretty pocketbook on your arm.
Walk for me.  Walk for me.

You’re Twisty Twirlington; YouKnowMe DamnWell.
You’re the supermodel, Honey: Sell!  Sell!  Sell!
Walk for me.  Walk for me.
