Wynn Social (a catch-all for the quartet of world-class day- and nightlife venues at Wynn Las Vegas & Encore ResortXS, Surrender, Tryst, and Encore Beach Club) is run by some of the cleverest cats I know, in the nightlife business (and I know a LOT of club folk).

So, it came as no surprise to me, when I heard that Wynn Social would be putting their best collective foot forward, with a seismic eruption of turntable-talent; when (from June 17th – June 23rd) our fair city’s cup is filled to the rim with followers of EDM, for the week of this year’s Electric Daisy Carnival (aka EDC Week).

It’s a shrewd play, to be sure.  EDC is a juggernaut, but like all such happenings, it’s not exactly a luxury experience.  Even those people being transported to the Las Vegas Speedway via helicopter, who’ll be ensconced in the various VIP areas, are at the mercy of being stuck at what’s basically a fancy rave, on pavement, in 110F heat, for the duration – and no matter how many leather couches and throw rugs are brought-in, it takes a toll.  Don’t get me wrong – there was a good decade of my life where I would’ve made sure that I was there from open ‘til close.  Of course, that decade was known as the Nineties; and I was a young, healthy(ish) electronic music aficionado with a high(er) tolerance for crowds, heat, and mayhem (or perhaps I was just too loaded to care).

My point is, few who come to town for EDC, whether for a week or just the weekend, can handle two (let alone all three) consecutive days and/or nights.  More than a few of those 350,000 revelers are gonna want to nurse their hangovers on Saturday (or Sunday, or Monday) by luxuriating poolside – though they’re still gonna want to hear that EDM music they so pathologically enjoy.   And of course, those same people will want to spend their nights at either of the internationally renowned nightclubs that Wynn Social will be operating that week.  (Tryst will be dark, during EDC Week.)

Enter those smart cookies at Wynn Social, who have booked some of the most high-profile acts from their roster of exclusive talent; for the benefit of those who want their EDM every bit as much as members of my generation wanted their MTV.

Encore Beach Club will be blasting the now-sounds of Fedde Le Grand (Thursday), Major Lazer (Thursday night), Diplo (Friday), Steve Angello (Saturday), AVICII (Sunday), and Martin Solveig (Monday).

XS will be featuring AVICII (Thursday), Zedd (Friday), Steve Angello (Saturday), Skrillex (Sunday), and An Evening with Skrilliex & Diplo featuring a supporting set by RL Grime (Monday).

Finally, at Surrender, the beats will be percolating, courtesy of Madeon (Wednesday), Morgan Page (Friday), and Zedd (Saturday).

There are 8,640 minutes between June 17th and June 23rd.  That comes to roughly 1.3 million beats (given the genre’s 130-155bpm) that’ll be emanating, from the venues of Wynn Social.  Noodle on that, for a while; I’ve gotta find an aspirin!
