I’m awful at impressions; all of my accents sound alike – Russian, Chinese, German, etc. In fact, the only impression I can do half-way decently is Imitation Crab (for which I simply portray a lobster, going “Hey! Look at me! I’m a crab!”). But one of my dearest friends for these past 16 years is acclaimed impressionist Jimmy James, and for twenty-something years I did a (barely) passable impression of a straight person – so I think I’m a fairly good judge.

Well, to the best of my recollection, I’d never seen a female vocal tribute artist; until I met the incroyable Véronic DiCaire, star of VÉRONIC Voices, at Bally’s Las Vegas. The Canadian singing sensation, whose show is backed by Celine Dion and René Angélil, performs wonderfully engaging singing impressions of women so famous they require only one name, such as Adele, Britney, Cher, Dolly, Édith, Gaga, Gloria, Madonna, Rihanna, Shania, Tina, Whitney, and the aforementioned Celine.

Well, as luck would have it, just prior to taking the stage at the #UniteLIVE concert (where the Thomas & Mack Center reverberated with the sounds of thousands of teens enthusiastically singing along to her uncanny rendition of Katy Perry’s “Firework”), Véronic put on a private performance at VG Strip at Neiman Marcus, for guests who’d been invited to see Britain’s Bad Boy of Bling, Stephen Webster MBE, and the fabulous faceted finery, from his 2013/14 collections.

Véronic, dressed in a futuristic leather-accented ensemble, topped-off her look with a pave diamond Stephen Webster Jaws Cuff, from his “Jewels Verne” collection, and a spectacular cocktail ring from Webster’s “Bang” collection; and (after Webster read a poem he’d written, inspired by the famed White Cliffs of Dover, where he maintains an estate), got up and wowed the crowd, before heading over to #UniteLIVE.

And the jewelry? Hello?!?! Webster’s latest collections are, like the man himself, the best of Britain; located at the intersection of irreverent punk styling and exacting precision design. Perhaps this is why the assemblage included the likes of Vince Neil, Carrot Top, Annmarie Jones, Kimberlee Hyp, and Paul Lowden, Jr. Who knows? As for me – you can keep your dinner; I’ll take jewelry and a show every time.
