With Halloween in the rear-view, it’s only a matter of time until the Christmas carols begin playing in high rotation.  And while it’s rather off-putting, hearing about Frosty the Snowman, when the mercury is still north of 80°F; this time of year just finds people being a bit more generous.  So, it’s not too surprising that VEGAS GIVES – VEGAS Magazine’s annual fundraiser that’s become one of the magazine’s annual signature events – is still going strong, in its eighth year.

Here’s the skinny: nine female philanthropists (see below) from around the Valley are selected to represent a local charity to which they have some connection.  There’s a promotional photoshoot (shot on-location, at the Grand Canal Shoppes, with diamond jewelry provided by the Kwiat boutique, inside Bellusso Jewelers at The Palazzo); after the taking of which, each lady begins to campaign for her respective organization.

Each guest buys entry tickets and raffle tickets; with those monies going to the lady/organization specified by the guest.  At the end of the event, the monies are divvied-up and presented to the charities; and whichever lady has brought in the most monies for her organization wins an additional $1,500 (from the Grand Canal Shoppes and VEGAS Magazine) for her charity.

There’s also a bunch of cool raffle items, each year – and some of this year’s include a NASCAR experience, an XCYCLE Membership, and a basketball autographed by Michael Shulman (just kidding – it’s autographed by Michael Jordan); as well as signature items donated by some of the Grand Canal Shoppes’ partners, including Barney’s New York, Christian Louboutin, and Diane von Furstenberg.

In addition to being held in a beautiful and inviting space, VEGAS Magazine’s Editor in Chief, Andrea Bennett Gardner, has found that her favorite part of this annual event is “learning about the personal stories behind these women’s connections to their charities.”
