I prefer few things more than a long leisurely lunch, enjoyed with a friend or two.  It really hits the spot, in more ways than one.  Gimme a couple carafes of iced tea, and at least one course that I can eat sans utensils; and I’m a particularly happy boy.  So, imagine my delight, upon finding that the chefs of Table 10 - Emeril Lagasse’s décontracté New Orleans eatery, located in the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Palazzo – had decided to make this the Summer of Sandwiches!

And this isn’t just some arbitrary marketing angle for Table 10’s already fabulous menu (filled, as it is, with Emeril’s take on classic New Orleans cuisine), but a way for chef de cuisine James Richards and his sous chefs Octavio Garcia and Julian Reveles to each take a classic sandwich enjoyed in their respective childhoods; reinvent it, and then “kick it up,” in that way that is oh-so-Emeril. #Bam

So, from Chef Richards, comes Chef’s Colorado Lamb Gyro, with feta cheese, tzatziki sauce, red onion, tomatoes, and Kalamata olives, on house-made pita bread; served with garlic herb fries.

Chef Garcia gives us Octavio’s Adobo Steak Ranchero, with caramelized peppers and onions, Oaxaca cheese, shaved cabbage, and chipotle mayonnaise, on Mexican bread; served with fresh-cut tortilla chips and salsa.

And Chef Reveles, having gone back to his roots, presents Julian’s Berkshire Pork Cubano, panini-pressed on a ciabatta bun, with house made pickles, honey mustard, and Gruyere cheese; served with old-fashioned potato salad.

Always sucker for a good Cuban sandwich, I opted for Chef Reveles’ creation.  And to his beloved Abuela, let me just say ¡Gracias!

But I’m getting ahead of myself.  We started with the Artisanal Cheese Plate, with local honey, crackers, and seasonal fruit.  The cheeses were yummy, but I let my companion partake, as I now had a steaming bowl of Chicken and Andouille Sausage Gumbo in front of me.  I know, I know… It’s a crisp 112ºF outside, and not only am I ordering soup, but I’m ordering a gumbo that makes me perspire in places I didn’t know was possible?  Yes.  It’s that good.

While I was getting down with my Cubano; my friend was enjoying the Angus Beef Burger.  She was only able to get through half of it (it’s quite big), so I relished (pun intended) eating the leftover half, sometime between 2am and 3am.

And just to have sometime crispy to accompany our sandwiches, we gobbled-down an order of beer-battered Abita Onion Rings that were even that much tastier, when dipped in the creamy bacon buttermilk sauce.

No meal at any of Emeril’s establishments is complete without dessert, so we got the Bananas Foster Bread Pudding.  I say “we,” but because I’m not fooling anyone, let me assure you that it was me, and that she had a bite.  Not because she only wanted a bite; but rather because I’d hoovered it up, before she’d had a chance to come back for a second taste.  Oh well…  She snoozed, she lost.

All of the sandwiches are $18, and are available during lunch– which, at Table 10, runs from 11am to 5pm.  And don’t dawdle, because it’s not the Year of the Sandwich, but rather, the Summer of Sandwiches.  Of course, in Las Vegas, that might mean anytime until Thanksgiving; but just to be sure, I’d advise checking it out sooner than later.
