Well, it’s that time of year, once again. Last night, while driving home from a four-plus hour dinner at Piero’s followed by some highfalutin après at one of my favorite new boites, the David Furnish inspired/Todd-Avery Lenahan designed FIZZ-Las Vegas at Caesars Palace; I noticed a message on my dashboard that read LOW TIRE PRESSURE – CHECK ALL TIRES. So, around 12:15am, there I was, having dropped my pals Bryan Rabin and DJ Adam XII (aka the dynamic duo behind Hollywood’s hottest weekly dance-party, Giorgio’s: A Modern Discotheque, at the brilliantly named mmhmm, inside Andre Balazs’ uber-hip Standard Hollywood) back at The Venetian; pulling-in to the Shell station on Koval Lane and Flamingo Road, because it had started to rain.

Normally I would’ve waited until the next day and taken my car into the dealership; but while we’d been supping on veal parmigiana and lobster fra diavolo, the mercury had dropped so low that the rain had become a sleety and slushy snow. Picture it: me, in the freezing rain, in a pair of velvet slip-ons, gamboling around my car with the air hose, filling my tires. Why? Because (a) my tires were low, (b) people in Las Vegas simply never bothered to master the art of driving in the rain (let alone the snow), and (c) I’d rather spend 3 minutes filling my tires, than get a flat or swerve off the road in freezing rain.

Needless to say, I’m planning on being appropriately shod when I attend Thursday’s annual WENDOH Media Holiday Party,at the opening of the Ice Rink at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas’s Boulevard Pool. And while I won’t be doing any camel spins, axels, or lutzes, I will be there, booted, gloved, and fur-clad; cheering on my friends who do.
