At the 2015 JCK/Luxury Show, Rio Tinto – one of the world’s major diamond producers – debuted the four designer collaborations comprising the 2015 Diamonds With A Story™ Fine Jewelry Collections.  Each of the four designers – Jennifer Dawes, Suzanne Kalan, Matthew Campbell Laurenza, and Sandy Leong – created a bespoke collection for Diamonds With A Story™, featuring diamonds exclusively from Rio Tinto’s famed Argyle mine, in Western Australia.

Thumbing its nose at the conventional wisdom that diamonds are unattainable, these collaborations prove that diamond jewelry from a top fine jewelry designer can be obtained, with retail prices for most pieces ranging from roughly $500-$5,000.

Diamonds With A Story™ can be boiled down to the premise that well-designed diamond jewelry can be mixed, matched and layered with almost any look, ranging from daytime to evening fashions; and for under $5,000 that’s one heckuva premise!

Rio Tinto selected Dawes, Kalan, Laurenza, and Leong, because each of these particular designers has a unique perspective on design, displays an unparalleled attention to detail, and has shown a fervent passion for jewelry and fashion.  Each of their collaborations for Diamonds With A Story™ is a capsule collection, featuring 12-18 pieces, including rings, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets, handmade with 18K gold and Argyle diamonds in natural white and color (grey, silver, champagne, cognac, and brown).

By merging diamonds and fashion, through the two-pronged approach of innovative design and exquisite craftsmanship, Diamonds With A Story™ looks both to inspire and to educate.  To do so, each designer developed a storyboard to highlight the qualities they find to be most important to today’s female consumer, including but not limited to design, sustainability, innovation, versatility, wearability and accessibility. These stories include:

  • Shaped By Origin / “Rain” created by Sandy Leong – Designed for the modern woman, this beautiful timeless collection channels falling raindrop diamonds in recycled gold as a reminder of enduring nature. To be worn all day, every day.

  • Mixed Medium / “Camelot” created by Matthew Campbell Laurenza – Harking back to a world of pageantry and chivalry, this collection channels a bygone era whose fiery nature will be tamed by the woman who makes it her own.

  • Cutting Impact / “Leaves” created by Jennifer Dawes – Hand-crafted bohemian and yet perfectly formed, this resolutely feminine collection inspired by nature is for the modern woman who’s in touch with herself and the world around her.

  • Color My World / “Starry Night” created by Suzanne Kalan – Fiery stars explode in this beautiful collection that mixes Champagne diamonds and 18K rose-gold with a hint of black rhodium. Timeless and elegant, these pieces are destined to become treasured heirlooms.

“These are not your mother’s diamonds,” states Brandee Dallow, Head of Rio Tinto Diamonds North American Representative Offices. “Through platforms like Diamonds With A Story™, where we have the privilege of working with some of today’s most talented designers, our goal is to empower women who stay true to their personal style, while changing the greater conversation about diamond jewelry.”
