Las Vegas gets its fair share of music festivals.  Heck, most would probably say that we get more than our fair share – but that’s their problem.  One of my favorites, each summer, is the annual Reggae in the Desert festival, produced by Frederic Apcar; and it's happening, this weekend!

Returning, once again, to the Clark County Amphitheater, in fabulous Downtown Las Vegas, the 2014 edition of Reggae in the Desert will kick-off with local rootsmeisters Barry Black & the Senzuals (1pm); followed by South Bay all-stars Fortunate Youth (2pm); and the incomparable Don Carlos (3pm).  Five of reggae legend Denroy Morgan, perform as Morgan Heritage (4:30pm); with Taurus Riley getting the evening started right (6pm); dancehall great Barrington Levy (7:30pm); and concluding with New Orleans-born/Bermuda-raised Collie Buddz, who looks more than a little bit like the stony brother, of actor Wentworth Miller (9:15pm).

But it’s not just about the music, at Reggae in the Desert; it’s also about the food!  With a wide array of foods and drinks in the Caribbean Islands-style, you’ll be certain to find the fried plantains, oxtail, peas & rice, and jerk chicken that you’re craving.  And of course, you can count on plenty of iced-cold Red Stripe Jamaican-style lager, to wash it all down.  Respect.

So, throw-on your sandals, and crocheted beret; grab your hacky-sack, and head on down to Reggae in the Desert 2014, where everyting is irie, mon!  Just promise me, no matter how much Shaved-Ice you consume, you won’t call it Reggae in the Dessert.
