Tapping into the zeitgeist as something is just about to break – it’s a pretty great rush!  But doing so prior to no less a publication than The New York Times, where two articles in last Sunday’s paper were on-topic with a trio of essays I’d published, here on ShulmanSays, over the past month.

Under no circumstances am I claiming any malfeasance on behalf of The New York Times or anyone affiliated with that esteemed organization (I’m a huge fan – which is why this is so cool).

Here’s the skinny…

In late July, I’d gone to Los Angeles with a list of objectives. Going to Giorgio’s: A Modern Discotheque, the glamtastic disco extravaganza thrown by Bryan Rabin and DJ Adam XII, at mmhmmm (my favorite club name, ever!), at The Standard Hollywood was right at the top.  "Disco's Triumphant Return to Hollywood” ran on August 7th. I had enjoyed myself, so much, in fact, that I actually exacerbated a meniscus tear while gettin’ down with former Soul Train dancer, Jody Watley (who, upon hearing of my injury, sent me the kindest wishes on a speedy recovery. Classy lady, she…).

A the previous week, on August 2nd, I ran the essay “Just another Night at Chateau Marmont” about a “simple supper” at that morphed in a 6 hour carousel of members of the glitterati, cognoscenti, and latter day jet-set. And me.

So, imagine my delight when I heard from Bryan that Giorgio’s had been covered by T-The New York Times Style Magazine! In the Urban Dictionary, under “fierce” there might well be an image of legendary Giorgio Moroder fanning himself, with an assortment of flyers from the iconic campaign for the party bearing his name.

The article, “On the Verge | Los Angeles, Where the Wild Things Are” by Aaron Gell, was a great piece. Do I think Aaron Gell ever saw my article? No (although I’d be flattered to find-out he had). Do I think it’s pretty fantastic that two of the three images of places were of Chateau Marmont and The Standard Hollywood, inside mmhmmm, during Giorgio’s. Furthermore, Giorgio’s was singled-out with another party (does that make it doubled-out?) as the places for the fashion, music, and glamorous set.

Also in this past Sunday’s New York Times, was an article about the Robertsons, of that bayou-based reality juggernaut, Duck Dynasty. Meanwhile, I ran the essay “Duck Dynasty’s Back – Why I’m Delighted” the week prior, on August 21. Coincidence? Tots.

I’m just sayin’… Having an opinion I’ve espoused, in writing; validated by The New York Times – well, that’s a pretty great feeling!

Happy Labor Day!
