Keep Memory Alive's annual Power of Love™ gala is responsible for two of my favorite Las Vegas moments, each year: first, when the curtain is raised, and guests are maneuvered from the Dom Pérignon cocktail reception, into the arena for dinner (the chorus of gasps is always noteworthy); and second, toward the end of the night, when I think to myself “Well, he did it, again; but I wonder how Larry [Ruvo] is gonna raise the bar, next year…”

So, last year, making my way to the stage, after watching the likes of Chaka Khan and Bono perform for the birthdays of celestial twins (and this year’s honorary co-hosts) Quincy Jones and Sir Michael Caine – and after getting my photo taken with the legendary beauty that is Shakira Caine – I thought that very thing.

Now, it should be noted that I thought the same thing, the year before that; after watching everyone from LL Cool J and Stevie Wonder to Lenny Kravitz and David Beckham pay tribute to The Great One, himself, Muhammad Ali, on his 70th. And the year before that, and the year before that, and the year – well, you get the idea.

Suffice it to say that LR always comes through (Hello!); and whether there’s a recession going, or we’re running with the Bull, many millions of dollars are raised at this event, annually (more than $200 million, in the past 17 years).

Oh! And what’s happening, at this year’s affair? Well, since you asked, the evening’s honorees are the Conga-licious Gloria & Emilio Estefan; and toasting the fabuloso couple will be stars of song, stage, and screen – and that’s just Rita Moreno (she’s an EGOT, you know). And talk about royalty?!?! Carole King and Queen Latifah! The lovely and talented Fantine and Jordan Sparks will be there. Who else? Um, how about the legendary Sharon Stone? Yes, mama! And let’s hear it for the boys - Christopher Meloni and Andy Garcia and Jon Secada and Ricky Martin, a’ight!

And as if that roster of talent wasn’t enough to wet your whistle, think of the delicious dinner being prepared by renowned chefs Wolfgang Puck and Masaharu Morimoto. Hashtag: Yummy!

And if you can’t make it, on April 26th; just come back that week, and read all about it. But, don’t forget to send in those dollars, because Keep Memory Alive is fighting the good fight, finding treatments and cures for Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, Parkinson’s, ALS, Multiple Sclerosis, and other neurodegenerative disorders, in fabulous Downtown Las Vegas, at the Frank Geary-designed Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health.
