On April 28th of last year, I was very honored to play the opening set in the Private Club at Intrigue Nightclub, at Wynn Las Vegas; both because I adore the folks at Wynn Nightlife, and also, because it was my birthday.  So, realizing that I’d have some of my dearest friends, visiting town, for Keep Memory Alive’s annual Power of Love gala (and that to accommodate this year’s honoree, Ronald Perelman, the gala would be on Thursday, and not Saturday), I thought it would be a hoot to celebrate my birthday and that of Intrigue, by DJing at the Private Club – now rebranded as the Living Room

Not only did the team at Wynn Nightlife like it; they had me come to their offices for a photo shoot, to make sure that the artwork for my party was on-brand with the rest of the anniversary collateral, as the other DJs, that weekend, would include David Guetta, RL Grimes, and Diplo (in the Main Room).  Luckily for me, scheduled to play, that night, in the Living Room was musical gentleman and scholar, Peter Shalvoy, whose music I adore.

So, Señor Shalvoy and I got on the horn, and discussed what I was feeling for that night; deciding that – as I’d be alternate between DJing and hosting the party – I’d play a few songs, then mingle, then play a few more songs, then dance a bit, and so on…

A year ago, I said that the Private Club was my favorite room in Las Vegas; and a year later, I’m delighted to say that the Living Room still tops that list.  Maybe it’s the vinyl-only format (no CDs, no Serato, no MP3s, etc.); or perhaps it’s the strictly-enforced moratorium on social media; or simply that the room features Las Vegas’ most flattering lighting-story.  Regardless, it’s toujours glamour, in the Living Room; and it’s gorge.

Over the course of the night, Peter and I would treat the room to a soundscape that included such funky favorites as “Ai No Corida” (Quincy Jones), “Ain’t Nobody” (Rufus & Chaka Khan), “Victor Should Have Been a Jazz Musician” (Grace Jones), and “Back Stabbers” (The O’Jays); as well as aural treats by some of my go-to 80s ladies, like “Buffalo Stance” (Neneh Cherry), “Nasty Girl” (Vanity 6), “Stand Back” (Stevie Nicks), “Cruel Summer” (Bananarama), and “Bette Davis Eyes” (Kim Carnes); with sweet dollops of disco, à la “Never Can Say Goodbye (Gloria Gaynor), “Shame” (Evelyn “Champagne” King), and “Your Sweetness Is My Weakness” (Barry White).

In keeping with the privacy endowed upon all who enjoy the Living Room’s hospitality, I’m gonna forgo any mention of my guests.  Likewise, the only photos are those taken by the Wynn Nightlife house photographer (above).  But to everyone who came, hung out, boogied, drank, and joined me – I hope y’all had a great time.  And just a tip for anyone who opts to wear a caftan on an evening that requires some semblance of agility or coordination – make sure your caftan isn’t too long.  Me?  I was continuously tripping over my hem, and came very close (a few times) to taking-out those nearby, in my head-wrapped wake.

And finally, thanks to everyone at Wynn Nightlife.  Not only do they throw a great party, but also run the smoothest ship, in town; ensuring a good time for all.
