Much in the same way that Katy Perry kissed a girl and liked it; I recently went to a bowling alley and had my socks blown off.

It was at the new, blown-out, 80,000 square-foot version of Williamsburg, NY fave, Brooklyn Bowl, located at Caesars Entertainment’s new Strip-side pedestrian district, The Linq (also home to the world’s tallest Ferris wheel, dubbed the “High Roller”).

Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas is definitely NOT your parents’ bowling alley. The focal point is a concert venue that accommodates upwards of 2,000 in the audience; with the performances being shown live, on enormous high-definition screens, over each lane, on both the main and mezzanine levels. When I was there, last weekend, Soulive set the stage for the groovy, jam-bands that will follow – including The Roots with Elvis Costello (um, yeah), Jane’s Addiction, Spoon, and more Phil Lesh than you can shake a stick at (and that’s just in the first month).

The food, just like at the namesake Brooklyn Bowl, is by Blue Ribbon; and if you’ve ever had Fried Chicken à la Bromberg, then you know just how mouth-watering that is.

The thing that most stood-out to me (after I took a breath from shoveling fried chicken down my gullet) was the more than 400 smiling, friendly, eager-to-assist staffers who are quick, polite, and never more than a nod or gesture away. The next thing was how well-thought-out the venue is. A lot of forethought went into the design, and that’s immediately apparent upon walking in the door, and taking the escalator up to the main floor. There’s a fantastic sense of flow, so at no time are you in a dead space, or removed from the action (any more or less than you choose to be).

The sound is fantastic. Bowling-shoe concierges bring you shoes in your size (while you stow your Loubs and Choos, in the cubbies that line the custom coffee tables between the leather sofas at the top of each lane). There’s even a fabulous VIP Terrace that overlooks the Strip to the West, and the “High Roller” to the East.

Though I never thought I’d find myself saying this – I genuinely cannot wait until the next time one of my friends says “Let’s go bowling!” Come to think of it, I might be the one to suggest it!

So, to all the parties involved in Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas at the Linq – Bravo: And (to riff on AC/DC) to those about to bowl, I salute you!
