Jackie Beat is a multi-talented writer, singer, and actor; and has been seen in such films as Flawless (alongside Robert DeNiro and the recently departed Phillip Seymour Hoffman), and Wigstock: The Movie; as well as such popular television series as Last Comic Standing and Sex and the City.

Now, as she packs-up her make-up for her triumphant return to the Las Vegas stage (she was here a few years back, opening for Roseanne Barr – who calls Beat “the greatest drag queen on Earth” - during her seven-week run at New York-New York Hotel & Casino), as part of the uproarious burlesque comedy show, Selene Luna’s Dog & Pony Show; the one and only Jackie Beat answers these five questions.

ShulmanSays: So, are you the Dog or the Pony?

Jackie Beat: I have to be the dog. Dogs are my favorite thing on the planet! I am honestly thinking of getting a tattoo on my arm that is a list of my top three favorite things and they would be (in descending order): cock, pizza, and dogs.

SS: I’ve seen you perform everywhere from the Wigstock stage to Bar d’O; and always leave feeling better than when I arrived (laughter/medicine/blah blah).  What can Las Vegas audiences expect from a sick and twisted queen such as you?

JB: They can expect the kind of drag show I would want to see! That's the way I approach what I do.  I always joke that if you’re blind, you can enjoy my great singing voice and hilarious comedy; and if you're deaf, you can enjoy my over-the-top look; but, if you happen to be blessed with both sight AND hearing..? Well honey, you’ve hit the jackpot!

SS:  I was just watching Carrie (the original with Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie) and remembered you talking about your love for the film, one night, with Armen Ra and Jimmy James.  Are you still obsessed?  Dish…

JB: Yes! My love of Carrie will never die. I even have a room in my house that is all Carrie: Posters in every language, book covers, dolls, autographs, even a rare one-sheet from the original Broadway flop. The room has been featured in The Los Angeles Times and Fangoria. My collection just gets bigger and bigger because people keep designing new posters for the classic movie. I recently bid on a religious wall-hanging that hung on the wall, in Carrie's living room, in the movie; but it sold for more than I was willing to spend. I was so bummed, because there is NOTHING left from that movie. I met the daughter of the costumer, about 20 years ago, and asked her if there was anything (a button, a scrap of fabric, anything…) and she said it all got trashed, because no one involved had any idea the film would become so iconic.  I love this movie so much, because of its message: "Don't mess with the freak!"

SS: How are your dogs – not to mention those new hips?!?!

JB: My new hips are great! The doctors and nurses were so amazed that I was actually in less pain right after the double hip replacement than before.  I was in so much pain before the surgery that I could barely walk.  I am so grateful to everyone who donated their hard-earned money and/or God-given talent to help raise the funds to make the surgery a reality.  I feel like a new person.  And my dogs, Lil Sister and Miss Toni, are wonderful!

SS: Which one of The Golden Girls are you most like, in “real” life?

JB: Oh please.  Everyone knows I'm Dorothy Zbornak.  I even dressed like her, at my last show!
